Farshid Moussavi is one of the most famous Iranian architects at the international level. He was born in the city of Shiraz in 1965. This fame is mostly due to his designs that give the audience a sense of the integration between humans and nature. With a special and artistic style, he gives new life to the crust of the earth and creates a unique space.\u00a0\u00a0 In his designs, buildings become landscapes and landscapes become buildings.<\/p>\n

Mousavi says in an interview that he became interested in architecture when his parents decided to build a house in Iran and he attended meetings with them. Having studied mathematics and physics in Iran, he was delighted by the connection between art and engineering in the field of architecture and started his studies in this field. At the age of 14, he went to Scotland for two years and started studying architecture, and then worked for a year in Renzo Pebano’s building workshop, and then went to the Bartlett University of Architecture and completed his graduate studies at Harvard University.<\/p>\n

While studying at Harvard University, she met Alexander Zairopoulos and married him after two years of working together. Mousavi mentions David Dunster as an influential professor at Bartlett University. During his studies, he worked as an intern at Zaha Hadid’s company. After finishing his studies at Harvard, he joined OMA or Rem Koolhaas and started teaching at AA University at the same time.<\/p>\n

Mousavi says that teaching was food for thought and also a way to earn money and live. And in the next step, they founded a company together with Alejandro Zaera-Polo. In the small company FOA, big projects were created and they won many awards. In 1995, they were able to win the first world architecture award. FOA won the prize in the Yokohama International Airport design competition in Japan. They were the youngest architects to receive this award. Mousavi says, “We didn’t think we would win, but we did it in such a way that we would win.” We never did anything that was just for printing. The designs are made in such a way that they can be built and made precisely. And 7 years later, the construction of the airport was finished and their company was introduced by the British Consulate as the representative of Britain. In the same year, Mousavi was chosen as a professor at the University of Fine Arts in Venice.<\/p>\n

The year 2004 was a very good year for FOA, the opening of Edutorium Park in Barcelona’s Ferhang International Square, participation in the London Institute, being selected for the London 2012 Olympic competition and winning to build the new BBC theater and music building in London are some of the company’s successes in 2004. Among his famous works, we can mention the building of the Spanish municipality and the construction complex in Istanbul.<\/p>\n

Mousavi has written a series of function books. Mousavi says that he started writing this series of books with the book Function of Ornaments and Function of Forms as well as Function of Style is one of his other books.<\/p>\n

He believes that architecture means making changes in people’s daily lives, and many architects forget that architecture is about life and making changes. According to Mousavi, buildings are not only for their residents and the people who pass by these buildings every day are also very important. And Mousavi believes that all architects in the world are looking for a concept that is the starting point of design, because architecture is also an art that includes all arts, but it is not enough to stick to the cutscene and a proper architecture must go beyond cutscenes and inspiration. This causes the process to be prolonged.<\/p>\n

He says he loves projects that require a long time to be spent on them, but Mousavi believes that such projects will be enriching. Farshid Moussavi currently teaches at Harvard and Bartlett University.<\/p>\n
