Vahid Chamani<\/h1>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tVahid Chamani was born on the 7th of Shahrivar 1363 in Tehran. He studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts in 1380 and received a bachelor’s degree in painting from the Soura College of Art in Tehran in 1385. He is a permanent member of the Iranian Painters Association and a member of the National Elite Foundation of Iran.<\/span>\nAmino acids form the basis of existence, and by choosing this title for his paintings, Vahid Chamani refers to the origin and basis of existence in everything he creates.<\/span>\nVahid Chamani says: “Since the Qajar period, the connection between the styles of Iranian painting has been broken. During the Qajar period, Iranian painters tended to draw portraits as if they were in awe of the painter, and they were drawn on the canvas. Paying attention to details is one of the distinctive characteristics of the painting of this period. Most of the paintings of this period are accompanied by a series of decorations that both give strength to the painting and create prominence. He also tried to achieve his new form according to the characteristics of the Qajar period painting.<\/span>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

In his paintings, unlike the Qajar period, where all the details of people’s faces were depicted, we see men and women whose identities have been distorted. It is as if the painter, more than anything else, depicted the troubled minds of the portraits in the face of today’s world and called their insides on the canvas.<\/p>\n

Of course, in the paintings of Vahid Chamani, we still see the use of decorative elements, such as blue-green gems and colored sequins, which are imprinted on the hair and clothes of the portraits. This painter’s meticulousness in using decorative elements and addressing the details of the portraits’ clothes, faded faces, and confused looks reminds us that today’s people, while showing interest in details and luxuries, are in a state of turmoil and destruction. This lack of identity can also be seen in animals that have pulled a rope. Animals are depicted in such a way that they are not clearly recognizable to the audience.<\/p>\n

The atmosphere of Vahid Chamani’s previous works was also a mixture of human and animal faces. He justifies the intermingling of man and animal in his works as follows: “I wanted to create a kind of question. The contrasts and contradictions that I have created in the concepts and even in the images create doubt for the audience and they see the subjects as dual. In general, there is something between the truth and the unreality of the concepts and subjects that exist; something between being human or even being similar to another creature. This issue helped a lot to create this situation and air, and that these subjects are placed in a vacuum. The subjects do not show a special position and nature of themselves that we can recognize that they are human by nature, that is, they are a complete human being, or they can be another being.”<\/p>\n

He continues about why in most of his works the faces are painted in a different way: “My attempt is to portray the inner and psychological states of people. An image of doubts, fear and despair and everything that makes contemporary people worry about the future, both in Iran and in the general view of the world. A dark future that has taken the light from the eyes of the characters and made the eyes staring at the future cold and empty. You can see the characters.”<\/p>\n

Before portraying men and women with distorted faces and lost identity, he has been focusing on drawing portraits and figurative painting for years, and over time he was able to achieve his favorite form by deforming people’s faces.<\/p>\n

Crumpling and distorting the identity of people and objects in painting is a characteristic of 20th century painters, that every artist expresses the conditions of today’s man from his perspective and pulls out the inner layers of a character from the various dimensions of his personality.<\/p>\n

The type of painting of this painter on the canvas and the transparency of the colors are such that at first glance the audience never feels that the technique of this painter is paint and oil, and it is more felt that this painter has used the watercolor technique.<\/p>\n

This type of use of color has attracted the attention of Iranian painters during the Safavid era, and according to Chamani, he intends to use this technique to bring the spirit of Iranian painting to his work. He believes that by using this technique that the painter does not put the paint on the canvas at once, the depth of a subject can be depicted better and with this method the color looks more transparent.<\/p>\n

In 2008, he was selected as the only selected painter in the “Magic of Persia” competition held in London, and after being selected, his works entered the world market.<\/p>\n

Chamani, winner of the 7th Iran Biennale of Painting and winner of the first Damon Far Painting Biennial, in 2012, on the sidelines of the new exhibition of his works, in an interview with Shabestan news agency, explains the reason for the change in his new works as follows: “I have painted the works of this exhibition mainly in the last three or four years, and I have not held a solo exhibition in Iran in these years. But the works of this exhibition can also be considered a continuation of my previous works, and I can only say that the colors have become a little brighter in these works. I cannot say for sure. I must say that there is a special reason for changing these colors, because all these works are improvised, so maybe it is due to the corso of hope that sometimes comes to me and brightens my canvases. The sequence of memories, concerns and everyday life, are all those things that continue to occupy my mind.”<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Vahid Chamani can be considered as the youngest international Iranian artist. He recently returned from participating in a group exhibition in New York in 2013 and said about his participation in this art event: “My solo exhibition in America was held at the same time and at one of the largest art events in New York, The Armory Show, at the invitation of Art Middle East Fair and Canvas Gallery. This invitation was held after showing my works in a group exhibition entitled “Thousand Colors” with the help of “Gallery “Nar” was held in New York. In this exhibition, a collection of portraits and figures was displayed, which fortunately was well received, and it was an opportunity to display my paintings alongside the most prominent works of artists in the world, which were collected by collectors and gallery owners from all over the world.<\/p>\n

Vahid Chamani’s works in July 2013, by participating in the second auction in Tehran and selling for 22 million Tomans, and earlier by setting a record in Christie’s Dubai by selling his work for 28 thousand dollars, has achieved significant success in the art market.<\/p>\n

Chamani, who first became famous with his amino acids, now focuses on visualizing apocalyptic spaces and creating a vague world of forgotten memories of ancient human achievements. Recognizing the lost symbols of the “Tradition” era is the cornerstone of this period of the artist’s works.<\/p>\n

Chamani, with his own technique and limited use of warm, dark and aging colors, seeks to recreate the spaces experienced in the “human collective unconscious”. The mysterious atmosphere of his painting is a reminder of the semi-invisible and hidden confrontation of man with a strange creature hidden in his inner thoughts, which creates a beautiful battle and finally shows the depth of human loneliness in the contemporary world.<\/p>\n

Vahid Chamani spends all his time painting in his studio. What experience has he accumulated during this time and if he wants to transfer his experience to young people who are interested in the art of painting, what advice would he give them? Chamani says: “What is very important for the creation of a work is that it is at least convincing for the artist and can attract the audience to some extent. For this reason, the artist should act honestly when creating the work and before that, in deciding to create the desired work, and be able to recreate what he observes in the environment and the feeling that is created for him personally without the interference of any external thoughts and personally, and in addition to It’s the ability to transfer it directly to the canvas. I think that’s the key to success for anyone who does art.”<\/p>\n

\u00a0Ever since the Middle East and global markets have been opened to the works of Iranian painters, there is a concern that painters paint not for art, but for the market. Vahid Chamani says: “Yes, there is this concern. Because after a while, the works created by artists become custom-made and they do something that Western buyers like, or buyers who live in the Middle East. This happened and it is not a pleasant thing. But at least in relation to my own work, I have painted in the same way before these developments. Although I started with this method at the beginning. My works were not liked by many gallerists and even collectors because of the darkness of the subject and the dullness of the colors.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
