Qabad Shiva
The great Iranian designer and painter was born in 1319 in the city of Hamadan. His family, including his father, had a hand in art. His father was a string player and a writer. One of his family members who played a significant role in his development was his older brother, he worked at the American Hospital in Hamedan. His brother brought the Christmas cards that the Americans gave him to Qobad, Qobad drew designs on those cards, and for the first time in Saifullah Golcherian’s class, when the teacher asked everyone to show their crafts. Qabad showed the design of one of those cards and was waiting for the master’s punishment. But the teacher was surprised and welcomed his work very much. After that incident, Qabad was an assistant in the teacher’s private classes. Qabad learned how to make paint and familiarity with color in Seifullah Golperian’s class. He gradually became interested in nature painting. Despite his family’s opposition, he finally entered the University of Fine Arts. His classmates in those years were Abbas Kiarostami and Aydin Aghdashloo and many other great people. He started his work in Tamasha magazine little by little, this was the beginning of his blossoming

Ghobad Shiva established the graphic unit of Sed and Cima, namely Soroush Publications. Ghobad Shiva gradually rose to international prominence, he won the Biennial Borno Poster Award, and major magazines published his works. He applied to Pratt University in New York and even though they were waiting for him to be a lecturer, he chose to study graphics.
After coming to Iran, Shiva taught at Al-Zahra University, University of Fine Arts and some other art universities. Ghobad Shiva attached great importance to Iranian spirit and culture in his works and believed that we should create our own graphics. His works have a simple design, including the simple use of Iranian elements. He believed that a work of art should have an authentic Iranian spirit and he created this theme well in his works. Shiva generally used Islamic art in his works. And he considered the closeness of decorative art to Islamic art to be wrong. Decorative art is an art that does not change the work when it is removed. For example, he says that if the tiles of Sheikh Lotfollah mosque are removed, the mosque will no longer have color or pattern. So Islamic art is not just decorative art.
He believed that an artist should answer the graphic needs of his people.
Ghobad Shiva’s main concern is to show his beliefs and the identity, history and culture of Iranians in his works so that his art has a message for the whole world. He is currently running his own company, which is active in the field of environmental design and exhibition graphic consulting
