In the majestic Rotunda of the Bourse de Commerce, French artist Céleste Boursier-Mougenot presents clinamen—an installation that invites deep listening, slowness, and inner reflection. A wide basin of water, 18 meters across, holds floating white porcelain bowls that drift gently with the current. Their soft collisions generate spontaneous, melodic sounds—an ever-changing, living symphony created without human touch.
The word clinamen comes from Epicurean philosophy, referring to the random swerve of atoms. Here, it symbolizes the unpredictable yet harmonious dance of the bowls. Sound becomes a living substance, shaped by space and chance, offering visitors a pure and intuitive artistic encounter.
In this video, we watch and listen—at real speed—for nearly two minutes. It’s an invitation to slow down and immerse yourself in a moment where silence, motion, and music converge.
